Abstract Professional diving or work under hyperbaric atmospheres involves very specific risks, in particular decompression sickness. However, the prevention of occupational hazards remains underdeveloped in this sector and pathologies are often not understood, even among physicians and safety and health professionals. Contents of this article on the prevention of risks in professional diving: brief description of professional diving, of accidents inherent to this activity and related legislation; differences between land and aquatic environments; diving techniques; risks related to diving; risks related to breathing hyperoxic gas mixtures.
