Abstract Physicians are exposed to a range of work-related risk factors that may result in occupational diseases. The objective of this literature review was to shed light on the prevalence and incidence of musculoskeletal complaints among hospital physicians. Five medium-quality studies and three high-quality studies were included in this review. Findings are inconclusive. The definitions and assessment used in the studies for musculoskeletal complaints were different, and there were wide variations between the studies on the reported prevalences for hand, wrist, shoulder, neck and low back pain.
