Abstract Nursery school teachers in contact with small children are at risk of infectious diseases. This study analysed the relevant literature on infectious diseases among nursery school teachers since 1990 to examine which agents were responsible for increased risks. Although the analysis did not provide information on the relative infection risk, it is suggested that nursery school teachers be not only tested regularly for hepatitis A, measles, mumps, varicella and rubella, but also examined for cytomegalic inclusion disease and parvovirus, as these two pathogens present an increased infection risk and can furthermore lead to damage to the foetus.
