Abstract Nanoparticles can be absorbed by inhalation, ingestion and through the skin. Some nanoparticles agglutinate rapidly, which can influence their properties and their effects on the body. Despite numerous articles published on the toxicity of nanoparticles, there remains a pressing need for in vivo studies to inform dose-response relationships in animals and humans.
