Abstract Despite the high frequency of accidents attributable to maintenance, repair and unjamming work on industrial machines, lockout is still not well known and not extensively used. However, it is a means provided for in Quebec regulations for reducing the risks to workers who use these machines. This document presents the main elements which have to be analyzed when developing the lockout programme of an enterprise.
