Abstract The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using urine samples to monitor internal radiation exposure in the event of a radiological incident involving the intentional dispersal of 210Po. Computer modelling was used to evaluate urinary excretion of 210Po and to calculate effective doses subsequent to an acute unit intake of 210Po. It was concluded that the collection and analysis of urine samples is adequate to identify persons who may be exposed in the event of a radiological emergency involving 210Po.
