Title Regulating the health and safety of young workers in Australia
Bibliographic information Apr. 2006, Vol.22, No.2, p.115-125. 56 ref.
Abstract In Australia, the employment of young persons is increasing. In response to this situation, a number of state governments have reviewed labour laws in recent years. This article examines the regulatory regime relating to the safety and health of young persons and adolescents in Australia. It is argued that this regime is somewhat piecemeal and in need of reform, and that a far better approach would be to either enact separate legislation to cover all aspects of the employment of young people (as in the state of Victoria) or to enact a code of practice that deals with the safety and health of young workers.
