Abstract Chemical safety data sheet on ethanol. Inhalation of high concentrations of ethanol may cause effects on the central nervous system, including unconsciousness and coma. Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation and depression of the central nervous system. Contact with the skin may cause moderate irritation and cyanosis. Contact with the eyes causes severe irritation and may cause sensitization to light, chemical conjunctivitis and corneal damage. Long-term effects include reproductive effects and damage to the liver, kidneys and heart. The liquid and vapour forms of ethanol are inflammable.
