Abstract Chemical safety data sheet on carbon monoxide. The substance is a colourless, toxic, extremely flammable gas. Inhalation causes the formation of carboxyhaemoglobin, reducing the blood's ability to carry oxygen around the body. Depending on the level and duration of exposure, symptoms may include vertigo, nausea, mental confusion and eventually loss of consciousness and death. It may cause long-term effects on the nervous system and the cardiovascular system.
