Abstract This article examines trends in occupational injuries in Thailand between 1992 and 2003 and investigates the implementation of workers' participation programmes in small enterprises, such as the Work Improvement in Small Enterprises (WISE) approach of the ILO (see CIS 03-1545). It describes the implementation of WISE programmes in hot work environments and workplaces with high musculoskeletal load. The participatory approach was found to be effective in improving both working conditions and productivity.
