Abstract Choosing the right hand tool for a job can protect workers from painful injuries and improve productivity at the same time. Contents of this article on the ergonomics of hand tools: handle shapes (pistol or in-line); tool handle interfaces (length, diameter, material, vibration-damping); working with hand tools (positioning of the activation lever, force required to activate, location of the power cord); noise (use of earplugs or earmuffs).
