Abstract This report presents the outcome of a study into the source and extent of manual handling problems in agricultural and horticultural enterprises. It involved visiting a sample of large and small enterprises in order to identify typical manual handling tasks that occur in the industry. By consulting farmers and growers, it was possible to observe the improvements they have made to reduce the risk of injury from manual handling tasks, to record any concerns that they still have, and to highlight factors that limit further improvement.
