Abstract This report consists of a discussion paper on the approach followed by ergonomics professionals in interventions aimed at improving conditions of work and reducing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders among workers in the aluminium industry. It is based on the evaluations of ergonomic interventions at two jobs of an aluminium foundry, those of gantry crane operator and of driver of the crucible-carrying truck. In both cases, the future activity model was applied and simulations of operator activity were carried out. The advantages and disadvantages of various methodologies are discussed and commented in light of the findings from these interventions.
