Abstract This profile was prepared in accordance with guidelines set by the US Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and the EPA. The key literature related to the toxic effects of di-n-butyl phthalate is identified and reviewed. Contents: public health statement; health effects; chemical and physical information; production, import, use and disposal; potential for human exposure; analytical methods; regulations and advisories; glossary. Based on findings from animal studies, toxic effects in humans would not be expected at typical exposure levels, since effects in animals were seen only at very high doses. Main effects on animals are developmental and reproductive alterations. (Update of CIS 91-1265).
