Abstract The presence of pigeons can lead to the contamination of ventilation systems and it favours the growth of microorganisms that can affect the health of persons inside the buildings. Indeed, the contamination of ventilation systems by pigeon droppings is an unrecognized hazard that needs to be addressed. This article describes the symptoms of various diseases caused by pigeons, as well as the measures that need to be taken when pigeons establish a nesting colony near a ventilation system (disinfection, removal of the droppings, decontamination of the premises, installation of physical obstacles).
