Abstract Legionella are bacteria that are frequently encountered in wet environments. Thus, they are naturally present in waterways, lakes and occasionally in soil. They proliferate in hot water systems, certain industrial cooling systems and air-conditioning systems, and can give rise to epidemics or isolated cases of legionellosis. Contents of this information note on the prevention of legionella at the place of work: risks to humans; regulations; protective measures.
