Abstract This report describes a programme of work to validate and develop further a procedure for assessing the risks associated with fatigue in a range of industries. The method involves a Fatigue Index, which incorporates five factors known to be related to the build-up of fatigue, namely the time of the day, shift duration, rest periods, breaks and cumulative fatigue.
