Abstract These regulations (commenced on 2 Aug. 1988, gazetted as S.R. 298/1988) were issued under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1985 (CIS 88-1751). They concern: appropriate design of equipment and work practices in such a way as to reduce as far as possible the risks of manual handling in the workplace; risk assessment by the employer; consultation of workers and health and safety representatives; control of risk; use of mechanical aids; training; employee duties.
