Abstract The Convention applies to all construction activities, namely building, civil engineering, and erection and dismantling work, including all processes, operations or transport on a construction site, from the preparation of the site to the completion of the project. Its principal provisions concern: attribution of OSH responsibilities when two or more employers undertake activities simultaneously at one construction site; rights and duties of workers regarding OSH; preventive and protective measures (safety of workplaces; scaffolds and ladders; lifting appliances and gear; transports and materials handling; plant, machinery and tools; work at heights; excavations and earthworks; caissons and work in compressed air; structural frames and formwork; work over water; demolition; lighting; electricity; explosives; health hazards; fire precautions; PPEs and protective clothing; first aid; welfare). The Recommendation provides more details concerning safety and health precautions to be implemented on worksites.
