Of the regulations issued under the authority of the Act, the Boilers and Pressure Vessels Regulations were issued on 24 Feb. 1955, commenced on 15 Mar. 1955 and last modified on 1 Oct. 1983. They cover the following main points: design and fittings; inspection; boiler attendants; miscellaneous (testing; notices to be given when boilers or pressure vessels are disposed of; notification of accidents; boiler or pressure vessel not to be used unless in safe working condition; prohibition of interference). The Inspection of Machinery Regulations commenced on 15 Jan. 1951 and are presented here with their modifications till 1986. They concern: interpretation; exemptions (transport equipment, office appliances, domestic machinery); inspections; safety provisions (dangerous machinery, risks of accidents, circular saws, faulty or defective machinery, notification of accidents); noise and hearing conservation.
