Abstract The Act (No.100 of 1978) received assent on 21 Sep. 1978 and commenced on 20 Oct. 1978. This version includes amendments up to 11 June 1990. It covers: interpretation; application (scope); shallow holes; appointment of inspectors; duties of inspectors; inspection notices; requirements for scaffolding, gear etc.; appointment and functions of safety supervisors; protective equipment and safety measures; artificial lighting; amenities; requirements with regard to riggers, scaffolding and directing of cranes; reporting of accidents; issuing of safety rules. The Construction Safety Rules were made pursuant to the Act, and were made on 16 June 1981. Only the headings of these Rules are reproduced here.
