Abstract The Healing Arts Radiation Protection Act of Ontario concerns the operation of X-ray machines for therapeutic purposes in chiropody, chiropractice, dentistry, and medical radiology. The legislation specifies the qualifications of machine operators and the duties of radiation protection officers designated for each facility. The powers and duties of the Healing Arts Radiation Protection Commission, established by the Act, are stated. Regulation 344/84 under the Act lists the hospitals in Ontario which are allowed to operate computerised axial tomography scanners. Regulation 45/84 consists of the X-ray safety code.
