Abstract These regulations (made on 30 June 1992, effective 1 July 1992) were issued under the Victoria Occupational Health and Safety Act 1985 (see CIS 88-1751). Contents: definitions; meaning of the exposure standard (for removal: 0.1f/mL of air; for other activities involving chrysotile and asbestos mixtures of unknown composition: 0.5f/mL of air; all other cases: 0.5f/mL of air; all measurements over a minimum period of 4h in accordance with the Membrane Filter Method); design and exposure requirements; prohibitions and exemptions (removal, spraying, production of asbestos textiles, use of compressed air or other gases, certain cleaning methods, amphiboles); requirements for consultation, notification and training; use of personal protective equipment and clothing; asbestos in buildings, structures, ships and plant; demolition; asbestos processes (risk assessment, risk control, labelling, medical examinations, approval of experts).
