| Abstract |
The original Act was the Scaffolding and Lifts Act 1912. From 1 Jan. 1979 its title was changed to the Construction Safety Act 1912. The text given here covers all modifications up till 1990. It covers: definitions; appointment, role and powers of inspectors; certificates of competency (crane operators, riggers etc.); notice of accidents; penalties. The consolidated text of the Regulations covers the years 1950-1991. Subjects covered: qualifications, powers and duties of inspectors; inspection boards; lifts, escalators and moving walks; notification of commencement of construction work; principles of safe work in construction (including work with asbestos and asbestos cement); safety in scaffolding; excavation work; compressed air work; use of explosives; explosive-powered tools; welfare facilities for workers; design, testing and use of lifting equipment; ladders, fixed platforms and means of access; plant and gear; amusement devices; public stands; hearing protection; work on roofs coated with brittle materials; abrasive blasting operations; certification of operators of dangerous equipment. |
