Abstract Law assented to on 12th May 1989. Contents: definition of terms; general obligations of employers, employees, and others involved in the operation of workplaces or the supply of substances for use at the workplace; recording and reporting of injuries, illnesses and dangerous occurrences; inspections; codes of practice; establishment of the Workplace Health and Safety Authority; role and duties of Industry Workplace Health and Safety Committees, and of health and safety officers and representatives; powers of inspectors; improvement and prohibition notices; appeals; offences and penalties; scope of regulations to be issued under the Act. The Factories and Shops Act 1960-1987 is amended. A number of Acts (including the Construction Safety Act 1971, CIS 73-1071, and the Inspection of Machinery Act of 1951) are repealed.
