Abstract First individual directive within the meaning of Article 16 (1) of Directive 89/391/EEC (CIS 89-1401). The directive specifies the employer's obligations related to workplaces used for the first time, to workplaces already in use and to modifications of workplaces. It also defines general requirements to safeguard the safety and health of workers and to ensure information, consultation and participation of workers. The minimum requirements apply to: stability and solidity of buildings, electrical installations, emergency exits, fire detection and fighting, ventilation, room temperature, lighting, floors, walls, ceiling and roofs, windows, doors, traffic routes, escalators, loading bays and ramps, room dimensions and air space in rooms, rest rooms, pregnant women, sanitary equipment, first aid, handicapped workers, outdoor workplaces.
