| Abstract |
Law concerned with the prevention of major accident hazards and with the limitation of the consequences for people and the environment of major accidents. It also implements CEC Directive 82/501 (see CIS 83-889) in Belgium. The Law applies to industries utilising chemical processes (listed in Annex I), when such processes need the storage, transportation or use of one or several chemical substances listed in Annex III, whether these products are present as raw materials, end-products, by-products or residues. The following types of installations are excluded: nuclear installations and installation handling radioactive substances; military installations; installations using explosives and munitions; mines; installations involved in the elimination of toxic and dangerous wastes. The Law deals with matters of notification, requests for additional information, the preparation of emergency plans and the collection of data. Annexes contain: list of chemical processes and installations to which the Law applies; list of dangerous substances whose storage requires particular care; list of 178 substances (with corresponding minimum quantities, CAS and EEC numbers). The Modification introduces some changes to Annexes I, II and III. |
