Abstract The Ordinance sets out the general principles of industrial safety, the powers of the Commissioner of Labour and of assistant labour officers, offences and penalties, liabilities and legal procedures. A list of dangerous trades and a list of scheduled trades are appended. The Regulations provide detailed safety requirements for: employment of women, young persons and children (including restrictions concerning underground or dangerous work, work involving the carrying of weights and shift work); general safety rules (reports of accidents and dangerous occurrences, obligation to remedy dangerous practices, taking of samples, duties of persons employed); registrable workplaces (fencing of machinery, dangerous platforms, liquids; fire prevention and fire safety; hygiene - cleanliness, ventilation, lighting, drainage of floors, overcrowding, sanitary conveniences, supply of drinking water, first aid equipment); offences and penalties. A list of dangerous occurrences is appended.
