Abstract These regulations, dated 19 November 1985 (effective 1 Mar. 1986), apply to trenching and building-site excavation. Contents: planning of excavations exceeding a depth of 2m; conditions enabling excavations to be dug without shoring (sloping, frozen ground); shoring (by qualified personnel when the depth exceeds 3m); choice of the site for the excavated ground; trenches with special profiles; excavations for buildings; escape routes. In an appendix: detailed rules for excavating and shoring operations; types of ground, their properties and their hazards in the event of rain; ground-water and its behaviour; ice layers between layers of ground; ground pressure; ground exploration by drilling.
