| Abstract |
This Act makes provision for the establishment of the new Centre (which commenced its activities in 1978) and prescribes its objects, activities and powers, the membership of its Council and Executive Board, and the powers and duties of its President. The Act prescribes that the Centre, which is under the authority of the Planning Secretariat of the Government of Canada, shall, inter alia: establish and operate systems for recording, analysing and disseminating information; publish and disseminate scientific, technological and other information; provide advice, information and service on health and safety problems to workers, trade unions, employers, government, national, provincial and international organisations, and to the public; sponsor and support public meetings, conferences and seminars; support and facilitate the training of personnel in and for occupational health and safety; give recognition to individuals and organisations for outstanding contributions to the field; and make annual reports to Parliament.
