It does not apply to signs used in rail, road, inland waterway, marine or air transport, signs for commercial use of dangerous substances and preparations, or in coal mines. Member states are required to adopt and publish by 1 Jan. 1979 the measures necessary to comply with this Directive, and to apply them from 1 Jan. 1981 at the latest.
