Abstract A Higher Council for the Prevention of Occupational Hazards, the role of which would be to participate in developing a national policy for the elimination of these hazards, was created by the French Act of 6 Dec. 1976 to promote occupational accident prevention (CIS 77-899). This Decree prescribes the terms of reference of the Council and its membership (government, employer and worker representatives assisted by specialists), the powers and duties of its committees, standing orders and rules of procedure.
