Abstract On the basis of the new Labour Code of 16 June 1977, the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance of 22 Sep. 1962 has been redrafted in consultation with the directorate of the Trade Union Federation. The ordinance (entry into force: 1 Jan. 1978) sets out conditions of application of chapter 10 of the Code, concerning especially the responsibilities of works management (implementation of safety and health measures, analysis of safety level, design of production equipment and workplaces, health supervision, workers' qualifications, recordkeeping and notification). In addition, this ordinance lays down the duties of the central national and economic authorities, the legal basis for safety inspection activities, competences in the supervision of safety and health measures, appeal procedure and penal provisions.
