Abstract Part I contains definitions of compressed air work, hoisting equipment, scaffolding, pressure vessels, shoring, construction work, etc. Part II is devoted to labour administration, powers and duties of factory inspectors (right of entry and to take samples for analysis, etc.), establishment of a new Industrial Safety, Health and Welfare Board (composition, proceedings, powers), establishment of advisory committees to advise the Secretary for Labour on industrial safety, health and welfare matters. Other provisions of the Act: mandatory registration of factories and shops; issuance of permits; mandatory notice of commencement of construction work to the Department of Labour and Industry; notification of industrial accidents; employers' and workers' obligations; duties of owners of premises; issuance of notices by the Department to remedy defects in dilapidated, unsafe, unhealthy, etc. workplaces; fire escapes, adequate lighting, sanitary conveniences and washing facilities; annual report on the administration of the Act. Provision for detailed regulations on 45 occupational safety and health questions (listed). Repeals, inter alia, the Scaffolding Act 1960, Inspection of Machinery Acts, 1965, 1966 and 1973, and the Factories, Shops and Offices Acts, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1973.
