Abstract Official translation of the Act (entry into force: 1 July 1977; provisions concerning trade safety councils, Working Environment Council and Working Environment Fund: 1 July 1976), which applies to all sectors of industry (aviation: ground staff only; shipping and fishing: shore work only). The main sections of the Act are concerned with: safety and health activities in undertakings (safety organisation; safety committee mandatory in undertakings with 20 or more employees; employer's representation on safety committee, in-plant health services, etc.); trade safety councils; duties of employer, supervisors, employees, suppliers of machinery and equipment, building owners, etc.; planning, organisation and performance of work; workplace conditions; technical equipment (machines, machine parts, containers, tools, etc.); hazardous substances and materials; rest periods and rest days; employees under 18 years of age; medical examinations; the Working Environment Council; the Working Environment Fund; the Labour Inspection Service (staff, powers and duties, inspection books, etc.); appeals; penalties.
