Abstract This decree makes the setting up of a special safety and health committee mandatory: (1) on worksites covered by the newly-inserted article L.235.5 of the French Labour Code, promulgated by the Act of 1 Dec. 1976 (CIS 77-899); and (2) on worksites for projects requiring more than 1 year for completion, and where a minimum of 100 workers are employed for at least 6 months. The decree prescribes, for both types of worksite, the composition, powers and duties, and objectives of these committees. The Organisation for Safety in the Building Construction and Civil Engineering (Organisme professionnel de prévention du bâtiment et des travaux publics (OPPBTP)) is required to assist in the promotion of these committees.
