Abstract These directives apply to the operation of depositing tree trunks on ice before floating them, and to driving vehicles on frozen rivers and lakes. Contents: choice of timber storage area and access roads; preparation of storage area (determination of thickness and strength of ice, table of maximum loads depending on ice thickness, keeping of log book of weather conditions, marking out of storage area and signposting of approach lanes); special testing of ice surface where vehicles weighing over 17t are used; traffic signals; supply of life jackets and spike-soled shoes; maximum speed limits; first-aid stations and shelters; responsibilities.
