Abstract The provisions of this Act cover, inter alia: employer's obligation to organise workers' safety training (particularly for new employees and those transferred to other workposts); gradual limitation of shift work and slowing down of assembly-line work and other continous processes; limitation, prohibition or control by regulations of the manufacture or assignment or use of substances, preparations, apparatus or machinery constituting a hazard to workers (penalties for non-observance); mandatory built-in safety in all premises constructed for industrial, commercial or agricultural purposes; organisation of occupational safety on work sites; powers of the labour inspectorate (authority to report cases of flagrant breach of safety regulations for immediate prosecution, without previous warning); employer's liability to be increased in case of occupational accident; rebate on social security contributions for undertakings implementing an occupational safety and health programme; improved compensation for workers injured in occupational accidents (loss of career prospects is now taken into consideration); extension of provisions of the Act to apply to the agricultural sector.
