Abstract These instructions (entry into force: 1 July 1977) concern occupational safety and health in abattoirs. Contents: responsibility of manufacturers, importers, vendors, lessors and users of mechanical equipment for abattoirs; premises (ceiling height, floor surface, floor openings, lighting, microclimate, soundproofing, loading ramps, pens, swing doors); working platforms; machines and tools (poleaxes, machines for dehairing, flaying, pelt pulling, foot removal, etc; conveying and hoisting apparatus, etc.); safe work in stunning pens and on conveyors (precautions with bulls and nervous animals, personal protective equipment, protective devices, cleaning of machines and floor, etc.).
