Abstract These directives were approved on 13 Nov. 1974 by the Finnish Directorate of Labour Protection. An introduction devoted to a round-up of Finnish law concerning workers' protection is followed by practical recommendations for compliance with the provisions of the order of 11 Aug. 1971 (CIS 72-1081) concerning medical examinations for workers covered by the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Contents: scope of the order; necessity for medical examinations and intervals between them; determination of harmful agents; chemical hazards; pre-employment examination and periodic check-ups; qualifications of practitioner carrying out examinations; medical equipment; physician's report (notification of occupational disease, etc.); any changes in occupational exposure and repercussions on examinations. Examples of harmful (physical and chemical) agents in the workplace, necessitating medical supervision.
