Abstract These regulations were adopted by the Council of the Ecuador Social Security Institute (IESS) under article 400 of the Ecuador Labour Code. Contents: occupational health (hygiene in factories and workplaces; lighting; noise and vibration; temperature, relative humidity, ventilation; radiation; biological hazards; toxic substances); occupational safety (guarding of machinery and equipment; machinery, tools, equipment, muscular effort and strain, manual lifting and carrying of loads (maximum weights according to ILO Convention 127); explosive and flammable substances; walkways, scaffolding; demolition work; trenching and excavation; transport of workers; fire prevention; personal protective clothing and equipment); employers' and workers' obligations; prohibitions (dust, gases, toxic substances, etc.); penalties; occupational safety and health committees; in-plant occupational safety and health services (technical and medical activities; workers' information; accident record-keeping, etc.); activities of the IESS and in particular of its Occupational Safety and Health Department.
