Abstract The schedule to this ordinance contains the statutes of the new Institute (INHS), which will operate under the authority of the Algerian Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The activities of the Institute include the following: technical and scientific studies; promoting research work; carrying out tests and experiments; centralising, keeping up to date and publishing information and documentation concerning occupational safety and health; advising on legal and other measures to be adopted, especially with respect to the approval of machinery and the granting of authorisations to employ hazardous substances; promoting occupational safety and health training, including advanced training; taking every type of action concerning information on occupational safety and health measures and methods. The statutes also stipulate the administrative and financial rules of the new institute.
