Resumen [inglés] Issued under the Elevators and Lifts Act, these regulations (Entry into force: 21 Sep. 1971) govern the design, construction, installation, operation, inspection, testing, maintenance, alteration and repair of elevators, dumbwaiters, escalators and their hoistways. The Canadian Standards Association Code B44-1966 and Supplement No. 3-1969 with subsequent approved amendments are adopted. Exceptions are wharf ramps and private residence elevating devices. Electrical equipment and wiring must conform to the latest authorised edition of the Canadian Electrical Code. Major provisions include the requirement for respirators to be kept in elevator cars where noxious gases could possibly exist. Crosshead sheaves and machine room floor openings must be guarded. The Chief Inspector must receive written notification 72h before installation work is commenced. Drawings and specifications must be approved. Completed installations must be tested and certified before use.
