Abstract The Shops and Industries Act 1962 (formerly the Factories, Shops and Industries Act 1962, see CIS 90-1406) used to require occupiers of factories to register their establishment with the authorities for purposes of inspection. The Occupational Health and Safety Amendment Act 1997 (CIS 99-1401) repealed the 1962 Act, but made no provision for such registration, which is still deemed necessary for clothing factories. This Regulation makes up for this lack, and requires occupiers of clothing factories (including those making footwear, buttons and hats) to ensure that the premises are registered as a clothing factory for purposes of inspection and for the enforcement of OSH requirements.
