Implementation of National Skills Development Policy Gaining Traction
A four day workshop on capacity strengthening for monitoring the implementation of the National Skills Development Policy implementation plan was held in Kisoregonj from December 18 – 21, 2014.
The national skills development policy (NSDP) is the core strategy underlying skills development planning and implementation of initiatives promoting training at work, as well as in government, private and NGO training institutes. The Secretariat of the National Skills Development Council in partnership with key stakeholders prepared an implementation plan for the NSDP in 2014 which was approved in the last NSDC meeting held in April 2014. This workshop was one a series of five being held to enable senior managers in more than half a dozen ministries to monitor the activities within their ministries in line with commitments made earlier to implement the NSDP.
During the workshop, participants used data collected and analysed earlier to prepare draft presentations on progress towards targets for their respective Ministry, Directorate or Department contained in the NSDP implementation plan. The workshop facilitator Mr Abdur Rafique provided one-to-one feedback on trainee assignments and draft presentations were shared with a high level panel including Director-General of Directorate of Technical Education, Mr Shahjahan Mian; BTEB Chairman Dr Md Abdul Haque Talukder; and CEO of the NSDC Secretariat, Mr A B M Khorshed Alam. The Chief Guest was Mr Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu who is Member of Parliament for Kisoregonj and State Minister, Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The workshop was co-organized by the Canada-funded Bangladesh Skills for Employment and Productivity (B-SEP) project which is implemented by ILO and the Secretariat of the NSDC. Several staff from the B-SEP project including Hari Pada Das and Manas Bhattacharya participated in the workshop. Arthur E Shears provided welcoming remarks in the opening session on behalf of the ILO Director.
