Training of Facilitators on ILO Participatory Gender Audit Methodology

A Training of Facilitators on ILO Participatory Gender Audit Methodology was organized by ILO at the BRAC Centre Inn during 18-21 Nov., 2012. It was participated by different UN agencies including UNDP, UNFPA, ILO, UNWOMEN, WFP, UNESCO, WHO, UNRCO and UNICEF.

Type: Workshop
When: 18 - 21 November 2012
Where: Dhaka, Bangladesh

Mr. Gagan Rajbhandari, Officer-in-Charge, ILO Country Office for Bangladesh welcomed the participants to the training while Mr. Arthur Erken, Representative, UNFPA stressed the importance of the audit in their opening remarks before the training started. Dr. Jyoti Tuladhar, International Gender Audit Expert was the Lead Facilitator and Ms. Samina Hasan from ILO Beijing Office was the Co-Facilitator in the training. The topics covered included key areas of analysis for the gender audit and audit planning, the gender audit process, participatory exercises, preparing the gender audit report, action planning etc. At the end of the 4 day training, certificates of participation were distributed amongst the participants. The training participants proposed an Action Plan for the UN Agencies, to be forwarded to the UNCT.

The participants expressed satisfaction with the quality of the training that was provided. Following this training, each of the participating agencies has now developed an internal capacity in gender auditing and should be able to initiate gender audit in their respective organizations and projects. This should help them to gauge their current gender mainstreaming status and to identify and take necessary steps to improve upon it. This will thus be a reflection of their gender responsiveness. They should also be able to act as facilitators in providing gender audit training to their partner agencies in case there is a need for it.
