A consultation forum entitled “Impact of Global Financial on Employment and Labour Market of Bangladesh” held on 19 August 2009 expressed the need for appropriate measures to tackle the impact of the global financial crisis. The consultation was jointly organized by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, ILO and Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD). Speaking as the Chief Guest, Mr Md. Atharul Islam, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment stated the Government’s programmes on expansion of social safety net measures to protect the poor and vulnerable groups from the effects of the global financial crisis. Ms Sachiko Yamamoto, ILO Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, spoke as the Special Guest. She explained the ILO Support to Member States in the Asia-Pacific Region in response to the crisis and ILO’s global initiative known as the Global Jobs Pact.
