Some 20 senior DIFE staff discussed methods to follow up findings of structural, fire and electrical safety inspections of Ready-Made Garment factories in Dhaka 5 March 2015. Experts from the Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety and the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety shared their experiences with the government staff. Accord and Alliance have between them carried out some 1,800 inspections and have considerable expertise relating to inspection follow up and case management.

Speaking at the event, Maurice Brooks, ILO Fire Safety expert said, “Strengthening the capacity of national inspection services has been a priority since the Rana Plaza collapse. By drawing on the considerable experience of the Accord and Alliance we are building the knowledge and skills of DIFE and developing a sustainable approach to effectively follow up on inspections once the Accord and Alliance have completed their work.”
 

“This is the first of several workshops that will take place and will be followed up by similar events for junior inspectors.Both the Accord and Alliance have a slightly different approach to the follow up of inspections. The government inspectors will seek to harmonize these into a national system,” Mr Brooks added.
