  1. Tripartite National Conference on ‘Green Jobs: The Way Forward’

    A tripartite National Workshop under the ‘Green Jobs in Asia’ project held on Sunday, 18 September 2011, at the Ruposhi Bangla Hotel, Dhaka. The ‘Green Jobs in Asia’ project is being implemented in Bangladesh by the International Labour Organization and the tripartite constituents. It is supported by the Australian Government – ILO Partnership Agreement (2010-2015). The conference’s main aim was to enhance understanding about the concept of green jobs in Bangladesh while seeking the views of various stakeholders on the way forward by identifying priority areas for interventions. The event was organized by The International Labour Organization (ILO), in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Employment. ILO constituents (government, employers and workers) in Bangladesh and other stakeholders participated in the conference.

  2. ILO and ADB to issue joint report on situation of working women in Asia

    A new report on how women are faring in the world of work will be issued by the by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Friday 29 April, in the run-up to Labour Day on 1 May 2011.

  3. Building Capacities on Indigenous and Tribal Peoples’ Issues in Bangladesh: Rights and Good Practices

    Promotes the rights of indigenous peoples in Bangladesh through piloting a targeted capacity building and advocacy initiative based primarily on the principles of ILO Conventions (No.107, No.169, and No.111) and other international instruments relevant to Indigenous and Tribal Peoples.The ILO Office in Dhaka is implementing the project while NORMES (PRO 169) department has the technical backstopping responsibility.

  4. South Asia Training Seminar on Indigenous Peoples’ Rights : Promotion and Implementation of ILO Convention No.169 and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP)

    A three-day South Asia Training Seminar on Indigenous Peoples’ Rights: Promotion and Implementation of ILO Convention No.169 and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), was held at the Brac Centre for Resource and Management (BCRM), Rajendrapur from 11-13 November 2009.

  5. Daylong Regional Consultation Programme on “ILO Conventions No.107 and 169 and Indigenous Peoples Issues in Bangladesh”

    Organized by the ILO-Dhaka Office in cooperation with the Kapaeeng Foundation on 7 November 2009 at Bandarban Hill District Council Auditorium, Bandarban, Chittagong Hill Tracts.

  6. Launch of the Alliance for Women Workers Rights (AWWR)

    06 September 2009

    The Alliance for Women Workers Rights (AWWR) was formally launched on 6 September 2009 at the VIP Lounge of the National Press Club, Dhaka. The Alliance will campaign for promoting women workers rights at the workplace. Some of the initial focus areas are: equal payment for work of equal value, minimum wage, maternity leave, and elimination of sexual harassment and discrimination at workplace.

  7. Joint Programme to Address Violence Against Women

    This is a well coordinated and designed programme by the United Nations Country Team (UNCT), led by UNFPA, and its partners to effectively address the unfavorable policy and legal frameworks for violence against women, and the social and individual attitudes and behaviours. The interventions are built around a three-pronged strategy: (1) The first strategy deals with the policy and legal framework in Bangladesh; (2) The second strategy aims at changing those behaviours related to violence against women/girls; (3) The third strategy revolves around protecting and helping victims of gender-based violence.

  8. Report of the Workshop on Promoting Gender Equality at the Workplace

    The gender workshop was organized to sensitize stakeholders on gender equality at the workplace. It highlighted the international conventions ratified by Bangladesh on CEDAW and Beijing Platform for Action, and progress made by the Government of Bangladesh; micro credit schemes for women and harassment at workplace; it focused on the various initiatives taken by the Bangladesh Employers' Federation, and National Coordination Committee for Workers' Education.
