A study on the gender pay gap in the private education sector in Jordan

To better address the pay gap between women and men in the labour market in Jordan and
issues of discrimination in the world of work, the National Steering Committee for Pay Equity
(NSCPE) with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO) commissioned a
study on the gender pay gap (GPG) in the private education sector in Jordan. The aim of this
research is to provide empirical evidence on the GPG in Jordan in a sector that is highly
feminized.
The Jordanian National Steering Committee for Pay Equity was established in 2011 with the
mandate to promote effective means to close the gender pay gap in Jordan. The Committee is
co-chaired by the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) and the Ministry of
Labour (MoL). It is comprised of representatives from trade unions, professional associations,
civil society, government bodies, the Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Industry, other
private sector representatives and the media.
